If you are reading this review, you are probably somewhat familiar with Charles McGee. In a nutshell, he was a Tuskegee Airman with a long Air Force career flying combat missions in WW2, Korea & Vietnam. In fact, he holds the record for the number of fighter missions flown by an American pilot.The most important thing to know about this book is that it covers his entire life. If you are looking for extensive coverage of his WW2 exploits as a Tuskegee Airman, for which he is best-known, you will not find that here. One fairly brief chapter is devoted to those days.The other thing to note is that the book was written by his daughter, so it is written in glowing terms about her father. Based on all the evidence, it sure seems as though he fully deserves her praise. I have actually met him at various aviation events, and listened to him speak about his experiences, and he just could not be any nicer! As with all African-Americans who lived their lives during that period, he had to fight through a heavy dose of racism. He always forged ahead with dignity, and let his achievements speak for themselves. On this basis alone, the book is well worth reading by everyone, and not just those with an interest in aviation history.

A biography of a remarkable airman / individual, whose achievements are on the record. I had the priviledge of meeting Col McGee and his daughter ,Charleen, at the 60th Anniversary of the USAF Airshow in Ohio which was also a tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen.
Great read! I grew up in Tuskegee and love reading the stories of these brave men. I knew some of them. Read the book in 2 seating and loaned it to a friend who is related to a Tuskegee Airman.
This is the story of a young Black man born during the era of racial segregation who learned to fly at TuskegeeInstitute and went on become an outstanding pilot and military leader.
