There are some really interesting bits of info in this book that I did not know. However, the author allows his culturally held misogynistic views about menstruation to taint the book. I do not believe that just because something that harms women has been done in a culture for a long time, that it's ok to do. If you are a woman that respects yourself or a man that respects women, it may not be the best book for you.

A useful materia medica from the hands of an actual Native practitioner, full of interesting insights and personal observations. He was herbalism when herbalism wasn't cool.

What a wonderful book! Easy to read with practical uses and stories of native plants that are all found in Alabama. It inudes the doctrine of signatures and drawings of the plant. Glad to own this wonderful read!

Not written by a Native person, but by someone who "fancies" himself a "healer" -- too new-agey for me.

Concise, yet thorough.

This is an excellent basic herb book, with lot of important things one should know about herbs, long with many usages and such. How to make tinture, soaps, tea, podwer, etc of certain herbs. For those new to herbalsim, one should read this book.

I've studied herbal healing and herbal medicines.I wanted to do an indepth study of Native healing so this is the first book I chose.The reasonable price helped in my decision.
